Welcome to the Krewe of Bacchus Texas
from beautiful Galveston Island.
The Krewe of Bacchus Texas promotes the preservation of Mardi Gras traditions through education, social events, parades and charitable donations.
Mardi Gras Galveston will kick off it's 2014 season on February 21st and will continue the festivities until the last parade on March 4th.
The Krewe will present two floats next year. The first parade will be Mystic Krewe of Aquarius 26th annual Mardi Gras Kick off Parade on the Seawall February 22nd at 12 Noon. - "The colorful pageantry of the popular parade will spotlight 160 costumed Krewe members and the regal Aquarius royal court. Participating Krewes will be "Thalasar", Krewe of Bacchus of Texas, Krewe Du Lac and Krewe of Boudreaux. For the best and most beads do not miss this one! This parade rolls Seawall Blvd from 14th to 59th Street."
The second parade will be the Fabulous Fat Tuesday on March 4th - at 6:30pm in the Strand District and historic downtown. Each year this grand parade in the final hours of Mardi Gras. The Krewe's of Gambrinus, BABALU, Thalasar, Bacchus and Z Krewe join Aquarius for the revelry. The parade will feature marching bands, dance teams and dozens of lighted floats.
This begins every year at The Tremont House Hotel with cocktails. Then, Galveston’s first second line parade begins which is lead by SaxWorx, a saxophone quartet of Houston Pride Band members. The parade goes from The Tremont to 24th Street to Strand to 21st Street and then to The Trolley Stop Ballroom. At the Ballroom, the new King and Queen are crowned in the Parade of Royalty. Dinner, dancing and cocktails last until 11 pm.
Our Krewe promotes several fund raisers throughout the year. Some of the more popular activities are our Liquor Wagon raffle. We raffle off a wagon loaded with top shelf liquor. - It's an instant party on wheels. The Krewe also provides food or drink at several events for donations. Raffle tickets can be purchased from Krewe members and at select fundraising events throughout the year.
The Krewe's royalty consist of Bacchus, a God and Goddess. The Bacchus position is for one year in a lifetime and is nominated and selected by the Board of Directors. Bacchus may be any Krewe member in good standing or may be a member from the general public.
God and Goddess is selected by chance. Any member in good standing may partake of the Kings Cake. The one who discovers the hidden trinket will be offered the position.
The Krewe royalty is the face and good will ambassadors for the Krewe throughout the year and are presented at the Bacchus Royal Ball.
